Sermon Series: Into the Wild Week 3
Sermon Title: A Faithful Follower: The Power of Obedience delivered on August 10, 2025
Day 1 READ: Acts 6:1-7. What was the dilemma facing the early church leaders? How did they resolve the issue and address the concerns? What does it say about Philip, one of the seven men chosen?
Day 1 PRAY: Take a moment to pause and pray, thanking Jesus for His protection and provision of wisdom for the early church. Invite him to show you a way you could serve the church in the near future. Share what He reveals to you with a close friend or family member.
Day 2 READ: Acts 8:1-8. How did God use the persecution of the church to spread the gospel? What was significant about Philip going to Samaria and preaching the gospel, healing people, and casting out demons?
Day 2 PRAY: Take time to pray and thank Jesus for the global church. Ask Him to provide protection, provision, and inspiration for our Christian brothers and sisters in places like China, North Korea, Afghanistan, and other countries where the church is openly persecuted. Visit the Voice of the Martyrs website to learn how you can pray for the persecuted church.
Day 3 READ: Day 3 PRAY: Spend time in prayer and invite the Holy Spirit to show you an area in your life where you need to better align with Jesus’ Word. It could be a wrongful attitude, behavior, habit, or pattern in your life. Ask Jesus for the strength and courage to acknowledge it, confess it, and turn from it, and receive Jesus’ forgiveness.
Day 4 READ: Acts 8:26-35&version=NIV" target="_blank">Acts 8:9-25. How did God move through Philip among the people? What do we learn from Simon’s faith in Jesus and his sinful motive to use God’s power for personal gain and profit? How does that warn us and remind us of the importance of remaining humble and walking with integrity?
Day 3 PRAY: Spend time in prayer and invite the Holy Spirit to show you an area in your life where you need to better align with Jesus’ Word. It could be a wrongful attitude, behavior, habit, or pattern in your life. Ask Jesus for the strength and courage to acknowledge it, confess it, and turn from it, and receive Jesus’ forgiveness.
Day 4 READ: Acts 8:26-35. How did the Spirit direct Philip? What inspired you about Philip’s response and God’s work to arrange the meeting with a powerful official? How have you seen God move in your life in similar ways?
Day 4 PRAY: Take time today to find a place to be alone with God and pray. In your prayer time, invite God to use you to be an ambassador for Him today. Ask Him to prepare your heart and arrange opportunities for you to be the hands and feet of Jesus to one person today. Invite God to give you eyes to see, ears to hear, and a heart ready to respond to the person God sends your way.
Day 5 READ: Acts 8:36-40. What was the first thing the Ethiopian man asked to do? How did Philip respond? What does this say about the importance of baptism and its role in the life of a follower of Jesus?
Day 5 PRAY: Pause and thank Jesus for saving you. Ask Him to show you ways you can more boldly share and declare your faith to others. If you have not yet been baptized, pray and ask Him to help you make a decision.
