Curated Reading for Aug 31 – Sept 6
Sermon Series: Into the Wild Week 6Sermon Title: A Seismic Event: The Power of Praise and Worship delivered on August 31, 2025
Day 1 READ: Acts 15:1-21. What was the dilemma facing the early church leaders? How did they resolve the issue and address the concerns? What does this say to us today about focusing on core issues within the church and the freedoms we have in Christ to disagree on the minor issues?
Day 1 PRAY: Take a moment to pause and pray, thanking Jesus for granting wisdom and discernment to the early church leaders. Invite His Spirit to pour out and pour through our Shoreline pastors and leaders. Pray specifically for one of our Shoreline leaders today, their family, their ministry, and their influence for Jesus.
Day 2 READ: Acts 15:22-41. How did God use the disagreements to actually strengthen, embolden, and expand the church and spread the gospel? What does that tell us about Jesus’ love and provision for His church?
Day 2 PRAY: Read Romans 8:28-29. Take time to pray the promises of that verse over your life, your family, your relationships, and any other area in your life that you are walking through a challenging season. Write down what God brings to your mind as you read, meditate on, and pray the words found in those passages.
Day 3 READ: Acts 16:1-10. How did the Holy Spirit move to build the missionary team, but also to give direction and vision for them? What is an area in your life where you are facing a decision and need the Holy Spirit’s direction?
Day 3 PRAY: Seek time and space to be alone with God today. Invite God to reveal to you a potential new “mission field” for you. Perhaps a neighbor, your local school, fitness club, grocery store, or other nearby establishments. Ask Jesus to give you wisdom and encouragement as you step out in faith and seek opportunities for spiritual conversations.
Day 4 READ: Acts 16:11-15. How did God move through Paul to share the gospel and plant the first church in Philippi? How did Lydia respond to the gospel?
Day 4 PRAY: Thank Jesus for the Good News and His great love! Invite Him to show you one person today, whom you could bless in Jesus’ name. As you move throughout your day, be attuned to the work of the Holy Spirit and the doors He might be opening for spiritual conversations.
Day 5 READ: Acts 16:16-40. What are three practical lessons you learned from these verses? How do they encourage and inspire you?
Day 5 PRAY: Pause and thank Jesus for not only saving you, but also for never leaving nor forsaking you. Thank Him for His steadfast presence and provision, no matter what we are walking through or where we are in the world. Commit to keeping your eyes fixed on Him in this season and not be discouraged by circumstances and surroundings. Listen to this and sing this song and meditate on its words for you and your life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6-KAcJu1Hg
Memorize and Reflect
Acts 16:25-26
About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. 26 Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose.
