Day 1 READ: Ephesians 2:1–5
Devotional: Before we can ever pick up a towel or deploy a gift for God, we have to understand our position. Paul reminds us that we were completely spiritually dead, drowning in the current and patterns of this world and headed to eternal death and separation from God. We didn’t rescue ourselves; we couldn't swim to safety on our own strength. God, driven by His immense love for us, threw us a life preserver of pure grace and brought us to life through Jesus life, death, and resurrection. Your value and security are already entirely secure in Christ. You are not serving to get saved; you are serving because you are saved.
Reflection Questions:
- In what areas of your life are you still trying to "earn" your standing or security through performance?
- How does remembering that you were rescued entirely by grace change the way you view your mistakes?
Day 1 PRAY: Thank God for throwing you the life preserver of grace when you were drowning. Ask Him to deeply anchor your identity in His love today, freeing you from the need to perform for your worth.
Day 2 READ: Ephesians 2:8–10 Devotional: Grace is entirely free, but it is not passive. Paul clarifies that while we are not saved by good works, we are absolutely saved for good works. You are God's masterpiece, intricately designed and hand-crafted. God has already mapped out a specific itinerary of purposeful, everyday actions for you to step into. Grace pulls us out of the water and onto the ship's deck, but it immediately hands us a job description. We are saved to participate in His work.
Reflection Questions:
- What do you think it practically means for you to be God's "masterpiece" in your ordinary daily routine?
- Are you currently walking in the good works prepared for you, or are you sitting idle on the deck?
Day 2 PRAY: Ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes to the pre-arranged "good works" He has set before you today at work, school, or home, and pray for the willpower to step into them.
Day 3 READ: John 13:1–5 & John 13:12–15 Devotional: The default setting of human nature is to climb. We want to sit in the position of superior rank, demand comfort, and expect others to serve us. But Jesus enters the room and introduces a radical clash of kingdoms. Jesus, the Sovereign King of the universe, knowing all power was in His hands, gets down on His knees and washes the dirty, calloused feet of His followers. He flips leadership upside down. To model Jesus, we have to actively resist the world's constant pull for status and choose the quiet, shocking humility of the towel.
Reflection Questions:
- Where in your life (at home, work, or church) do you find yourself demanding comfort, status, or respect?
- What is a practical, messy way you can "take up the towel" and serve someone around you this week?
Day 3 PRAY: Repent of the pride that makes you want to sit at the head of the table. Pray for a heart that actively seeks out the towel of humility, looking for ways to elevate and serve others.
Day 4 READ: 1 Peter 4:10 Devotional: Peter removes the option of being a passive consumer in the family of God. He explicitly writes that each of you has received a gift. It doesn't matter your age, your background, or how long you have been following Jesus—there are zero exceptions. Furthermore, Peter calls us "stewards." A steward doesn't own the assets; they manage them on behalf of the True Owner. Because God has placed a divine deposit inside of you, choosing to keep it hidden or idle isn't just a break—it's a form of spiritual mutiny against the Captain who equipped you.
Reflection Questions:
- Do you honestly view your time, talents, and capabilities as your private property or as a loan from God?
- In what ways have you allowed your spiritual gifts to sit idle, and what is keeping you on the sidelines?
Day 4 PRAY: Ask God to break any spirit of idleness or complacency in your life. Pray for a clear reminder that the gifts you hold belong to Him, and ask for the courage to pull them out of hiding.
Day 5 READ: 1 Peter 4:11 & John 13:17 Devotional: Knowledge without action leads to stagnation. Jesus tells us, "If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them." Peter echoes this by showing us that whether we speak or serve, we must do it with the supernatural strength God provides. Your divine deposit is a trust fund meant to bring safety to a hurting world, build up the church, and glorify Jesus. The Christian life is completed in deployment. It's time to pick a lane, trade your ticket for a towel, and use exactly what God gave you to pull others to safety.
Reflection Questions:
- If you had to pick one immediate, concrete "lane" of service to deploy your time and energy into right now, what would it be?
- How does relying on "the strength God provides" take the pressure off of you when you step out to serve?
Day 5 PRAY: Commit your hands and your specific gifts to God today. Pray for a clear opportunity to pick a lane and deploy your resources this week, fully trusting that He will provide the supernatural strength you need.
