Memorize and Reflect

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. (Acts 1:8)

Prayer Direction

Take a look at the various roles you fulfill in your life. As I do this, these categories and roles quickly come to mind: Friend- People with whom I enjoy recreation, meals, and sharing life Relatives-husband, father, grandfather, nephew, cousin Associates- colleagues in the workplace or volunteer organizations Neighbors- citizen, homeowner, someone to help a neighbor and be helped by them

“Live It!” Challenge

Write down the names of the people you know who are in these categories. They are the “circle of nearness” God has placed in your life. Now commit to praying for them regularly that they may be saved and become people who reach others with the gospel. The more you pray for them, the more you will care, and the more you care, the more you will share. Prayer becomes Care which becomes Share.

Small Group Discussion

  1. Read: Matthew 9:35-38 Jesus saw the people around him in three different ways. What were they?

  2. When you see the people around you, how do you see them? Does your view match that of Jesus?

  3. How can we begin to see people the way Jesus does? (Read 2 Corinthians 5:13-20) as you reflect on your answers.

  4. In the Matthew passage, Jesus asks for prayer that more and more people might be “sent” into the harvest fields of people’s hearts. Ask yourselves this question, “Where have I been sent, and how am I doing?”

  5. Have you ever considered being sent to another place or culture to represent Christ? And if not, would you be willing to go if he called you?

  6. Reflect on this statement: God so loved the world, that he left us here. What does it mean to you? What does it mean for your church?

  7. Read: Ezekiel 34:1-19 Bible scholars often link the use of the term “shepherds” in that text to Christians today with our role in the world. Now read the text again and insert the name “Christian” wherever you find “shepherd.” What do you learn from this text now?

  8. Perhaps you have heard of a story of the gospel being scattered in different parts of the world and having great effect. In your small group, share a few of these stories. If you have none of these stories, perhaps one or more of your members would know a story of revival from church history? May these encourage you to believe that God is still on the move!
