Memorize and Reflect

Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.(Ephesians 6:17)

Prayer Direction

Thank God for the gift of His Word, the Bible. Ask for passion and discipline that will move you to open the Bible and read it daily. Pray for power to put into action what you learn in the Bible and strength to submit to the teaching of the Bible (and the leading of the Holy Spirit) as you read it.

“Live It!” Challenge

Thirty-Day Adventure Commit to read the Bible (for at least ten minutes) every day for thirty days. If you don’t have a Bible, go the connections center for a free one or buy a Bible at the Shoreline Mobile Bookstore. If you don’t know where to start, use the reading plan provided in the bulletin and on the Shoreline website.

Small Group Discussion

  1. Tell about how you were introduced to the Bible and how you learned to read the Bible (or how you did not learn).

  2. What are one or two excuses you have used for not reading (and studying) the Bible regularly? Why have you used these?

  3. Tell about how the truth of the Bible has impacted, strengthened, or helped you as you walk through your life.

  4. Read: 2 Timothy 3:14-17 Make a list of the things this passage says the Bible can do in your life. How have you seen one of these played out in your life?

  5. Read: Psalm 119:9-1 & 98-111. Make a list of the things these verses say the Bible can do in your life. How have you experienced one of these in your own life?

  6. Read: Ephesians 6:10-17 and Matthew 4:1-11 How does the Bible function as a spiritual weapon in the battle against the enemy? How did Jesus use the Scriptures to stand against the work of Satan?

  7. What do you learn from the example of Jesus in this passage? How can you use the Bible more effectively as you seek to resist the enticements and lies of the enemy?

  8. What is a lie the enemy has spoken to you in the past (or now)? What truth does the Bible speak to counteract this lie? How can you embrace and believe this truth as you stand against the lies of the enemy?

  9. What are some of the ways we can help each other dig deeper into the Bible? How can we cheer each other on and keep each other accountable to open the Bible daily and feast on the Word of God?
