Memorize and Reflect

One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. (Proverbs 11:24)

Prayer Direction

Ask God to help you see the many ways He provides and surprises you with the things you need (and often more than you need). Thank God for the possessions you have. Invite the Holy Spirit to help you keep your eyes and heart on what you have and not what others have.

“Live It!” Challenge

Honest Evaluation Take time to look over your personal spending from the last thirty-days. Notice how much you spend on yourself. Take note of what you give away and invest in other people and the work of Jesus through His Church. If you are growing in generosity, give thanks to God! If you need to take a step forward in sharing what you have, start today and seek to become more joyfully generous.

Small Group Discussion

  1. Why do you think the Bible talks so much about being generous and why do you think God cares about this?

  2. How can consistent, joyful, generous living impact the person who lives this way? How might this impact the people around them? How could it affect the local church if every Christian lived this way?

  3. What happens when a person lives as if all they have is just for them? How can this impact their relationships and their faith?

  4. Read: 1 Corinthians 16:1-2. Why is it important to have a pattern and regular habits of giving? What are ways you have tried to live this out?

  5. Read: Proverbs 11:24-25. How have you experienced the truth of this passage?

  6. Tell about someone whose generosity refreshed your life and blessed you.

  7. Read: 2 Corinthians 9:6-11. How does giving and sharing in God’s work through generosity bring you joy? How does your giving bring joy to others and to the heart of God?

  8. Read: Matthew 6:19-24. What are some of the ways we “store up treasures on earth”? Why are we always tempted to do this?

  9. What are practical ways you can store up more treasure in heaven? How can your group members pray for you and encourage you as you seek to grow in generosity?
