Memorize and Reflect

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. (1 Peter 5:8-9)

Prayer Direction

Thank Jesus that His presence, power, and Name are always enough to find victory over the enemy! Pray for power to resist sin, temptation, and any enticements of the enemy. Pray for eyes to see where the enemy is at work and how you can stand against his plans in the power of Jesus.

“Live It!” Challenge

Put on the Armor For one week, read Ephesians 6:10-18 every morning…first thing. As you pray, ask God to place each piece of spiritual armor on you (The belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the sandals of peace, the shield of faith, helmet of salvation, the sword of the Spirit).

Small Group Discussion

  1. Tell about an experience you have had (or someone you know) that you believe involved the presence or work of either an angel or a demon. How did you experience the spiritual world connecting with our world?

  2. What are some potential dangers of fixating on angels and demons, and making these a central focus of our daily faith?

  3. What are some potential dangers of ignoring the existence of angels and demons and acting like they do not exist?

  4. Read: 2 Kings 6:15-17 One moment Elisha’s servant saw only the enemy that surrounded them. The next moment He saw a deeper spiritual reality. How do you think his outlook changed at that moment? How would your outlook on a normal day change if you believed Jesus was near, God was close, and divine messengers (angels) were working on God’s behalf in your favor?

  5. Read: Matthew 4:1-11 What are some of the tactics of the demonic enemy of our souls? How did Jesus fight back? What do you learn from the example of Jesus?

  6. What does it mean to speak in the “Name of Jesus”? How can we know we are speaking in the authority of our risen Lord?

  7. Read: Ephesians 6:10-20 Why is it essential that we are aware that we are in a spiritual battle? How can we be aware of this battle but not paralyzed or paranoid by it?

  8. Talk about each of the pieces of spiritual armor in this passage. How can we “put it on” or live in this reality in greater measure?

  9. How is the Bible (The Word of God) our best weapon in this spiritual battle? What can you do in increase your knowledge of the Bible and confidence in the divine power that is found in God’s Word?
